By Brent Lang and Lucas Shaw LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Brian Robbins first spoke with former Disney chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg after he made "Norbit," one of those Eddie Murphy comedies in which the comedian played several characters at once. Robbins directed the movie, one of ten he has made in his career, and DreamWorks, which Katzenberg co-founded, produced it. "I remember getting a very nice phone call from him - a congrats on 'Norbit,'" Robbins told TheWrap. "But we didn't know each other." Katzenberg was focused on DreamWorks Animation, which he had spun off as a separate company. ...

By Douwe Miedema WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The top U.S. derivatives regulator is considering whether the Bitcoin virtual currency should be subject to its rules, a top official at the agency said. Bart Chilton, one of five commissioners at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, said he had asked staff to explore whether consumers needed more protection from any mishaps with Bitcoin, whose value collapsed last month. "Here's what I know for sure: we could regulate it if we wanted. That is very clear," Chilton told Reuters in an interview on Monday. ...

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - The European Commission said it believed Motorola Mobility, a unit of Google, was abusing its market position by seeking and enforcing an injunction against Apple in Germany over patents essential to mobile phone standards. The Commission said in a statement it had informed Motorola Mobility of its preliminary view in a charge sheet known as a statement of objections. The Commission said injunctions could be used to combat patent infringements, but that was not the case where a potential licensee was prepared to agree on licensing terms. ...

Review I have a confession to make, dear readers. While I'm aware that this admission opens me up to virtually unlimited heckling from the Cisco-indoctrinated crowd, the truth of the matter is that D-Link switches have served me in good stead for over a decade. After having spent the past month reviewing D-Link's DGS-3420-28TC, I've decided its maker stands an excellent chance of remaining a staple vendor for my SMB clients for another decade.…

Embeds OpenFlow control freakage in two 10GE switches
By acquiring Force 10 Networks back in July 2011, privatizing IT giant Dell moved itself from a maker of low-end switches to a contender for a slice of the top-end market for 10 and 40 Gigabit Ethernet switches that are ever so slowly becoming the backbone of data centers. But you have to keep up with the times, and that means providing a 10GBaseT port alternative to SFP+ ports and cables that are commonly required on 10GE gear, and it also means adding OpenFlow management to the switches.…
