NEW YORK (Reuters) - Harvard historian Niall Ferguson posted an "unqualified apology" on his personal blog on Saturday after saying that British economist John Maynard Keynes did not care about the future because he was gay and had no children. The comments were "as stupid as they were insensitive," Ferguson wrote. While speaking at a conference of investors in California on Thursday, Ferguson was asked to comment on Keynes' observation that "in the long run, we are all dead." He described his response as "off the cuff," and not part of his formal presentation. ...

Afghan president Hamid Karzai isn't ready to give up his financially beneficial relationship with the CIA just yet. No, he wants those backpacks full from cash to keep coming. Karzai said he met with the CIA's Afghanistan station chief a few hours before while speaking with reporters Saturday. The conversation went fairly well, if Karzai is to be believed.

BEIJING (Reuters) - China has sentenced a former provincial deputy governor to life in prison for accepting almost $2 million in bribes, the most senior official to be punished since the country's new leadership made tackling corruption its top priority. Huang Sheng, former deputy governor of the eastern province of Shandong, accepted more than 12 million yuan ($1.95 million) from organizations and individuals between 1998 and 2011, the official Xinhua news agency reported.
